H&M is to open in Christchurch, New Zealand, with a new two-level store due to open its doors on September 9. The new location will include the retail giant’s complete product line-up for the first time in the country.

H&M will open a flagship at the NZ$140 million The Crossing development. It will be only the company’s second New Zealand store and at 2,600 square metres, it’s significantly bigger than the debut store. As a result, it will be able to offer its homewares as well as its women’s, men’s and kidswear in the country.

The firm’s first New Zealand store opened in Auckland, the country’s most populous city, with Christchurch having its third-largest catchment area, just behind the capital, Wellington.

The company said expansion in New Zealand has been on the firm’s priority list since its Australian opening last year with the intensive rebuilding work going on in Christchurch following the 2010 earthquake having been a factor in its decision to open there.

H&M said that the rebuild of the Central Business District will attract larger numbers of the young shoppers the company targets.

The retailer is also continuing to expand in Australia following its recent debut there.
