On December 3, the Intersport group announced the departure in 2019 of Ingmar Kraak, the CEO of its retail chain, The Athlete’s Foot. Kraak has been in charge of the sneaker specialist since 2013, having previously worked at PVH Corp.

Kraak’s mission in the last few years has been to expand the footprint of the chain bought by Intersport in 2012, especially in Europe. The Athlete’s Foot currently operates 533 stores in 32 countries, and in 2017 it recorded a revenue of $417 million (€367 million). Under Kraak, TAF relocated its headquarters from Bern, Switzerland, to Amsterdam, to be closer to its partners and have a better feel for street culture.

“It’s not that our work is done, it obviously never is, but after six years, and some transformational projects either done or well on their way, it is as good a time as any to go out on a well-positioned business, and allow the team and some fresh faces to maintain the momentum for TAF. In scale perhaps smaller than Footlocker and JD, TAF nevertheless held its own and managed to both reinvent and grow itself to a whole new generation of 18-year-olds,” said Kraak.

Kraak will step down at the end of the current financial year, in April 2019, to ensure a smooth handover to his successor, who hasn’t yet been appointed.
