A contract of more than 9 million euros per year implies some compromises.

According to the Spanish trade press, that’s what Cristiano Ronaldo and his partners at CR7 may have been learning in recent weeks. The FIFA Ballon d’Or title holder has just launched his first footwear collection with the brand that he created in early 2013. But Nike, his sponsor, doesn’t appear to be too happy with the move.

Cristiano delves into footwear with CR7 - CR7 Footwear

Present at the footwear trade shows TheMicam in Milan and FN Platform - Magic in Las Vegas, CR7 has already unveiled several urban models. Aimed at men and boys, the line features derbies, brogues, boat shoes, oxfords and even desert boots, priced at between 99 and 550 euros, and partly available on the brand’s website.

But according to the Spanish media, CR7 Footwear was also set to release some sports shoes. And Nike seems to have advised the star player to shelve the selected products and to focus on its more casual and formal offer. Although we tried contacting Nike, as of the publishing of this article the company hadn’t yet responded.
