Cannes 2017: the key hair trends, so far

Come-as-you-are hairstyles are battling it out with 'parting shots' and slicked-back looks on the red-carpet.

We have Marion Cotillard to thank for the huge normcore hair trend that's gathering steam at Cannes, so far.

On Day 1 Cotillard's casual jeans, t-shirt dress and anything but 'just stepped out of a salon' hair was applauded, and not mistaken as a double whammy wardrobe and hair stylist malfunction.

Advocates of mane taming and maximalist hair may not be enamored with the idea of downing their game, but on the upside this could spell less time spent in the bathroom.

US screen stars Robin Wright and Uma Thurman chose minimally-styled wavy looks.

According to Thurman's hair stylist John Nollet, "hair is a women's best accessory." Choosing not to compete with all the diamonds and jaw-dropping dresses at Cannes, hair is keeping a decidely low profile.

US actress and model Emily Ratajkowski and British model Lily Donaldson both rocked barely-styled tresses. Both carried off their middle partings to perfection while the former made no qualms about showing the world her root growth.

Bardot-like beauty and model of the moment Thylane Blondeau showed off her hair's natural texture with effortless beach-ready waves. All with a little help from L'Oréal Professionnel.

In an exclusive Instagram reveal prior to her red carpet appearance, the cosmetics giant claims low-maintenance Blondeau's do of "tidal waves" can be recreated in just five easy steps with L'Oréal Professionnel extraordinary oil and Elnett for holding the look.

Coming in close second place in the red-carpet hair style stakes, the ever-popular slick back is still proving a firm Cannes favorite.

In the smooth and tidy camp, Amber Valletta -- not a stray hair in sight -- let her exquisite floral Mulberry dress do the talking by slicking back her side-parted blond locks. Talking to Allure magazine, the model who once confessed to having hair that "basically does what ever it wants," displayed expert frizz control at the festival.

Young Japanese actress Hana Sugisaki showed up for the screening of the film "Blade of the Immortal" with a super-shiny slick hair affair.

India's hottest screen diva Deepika Padukone worked the smooth 'n' simple trend: sweeping up her long hair into a gravity-defying bun to let her stunning DeGrisgono diamond jewelry and emerald eye makeup steal the show.
