Online sales in China increased 27.5%, accounting for approximately 11.1% of gross retail sales, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

As a whole, retail sales grew 10.3% year-on-year, spurred on by urban consumers.

While city dwellers contributed to the bulk of retail sales last quarter, rural spending climbed the fastest over the three-month period, said the NBS.

By month, retail sales grew 10.1% in April, compared to 10.5% growth in March.

From January to April, the overall average consumer price increased 2.2% compared to the same period last year.
