De Beers unveils Meghan Markle-style engagement rings

An engagement ring is an emotional affair for every woman, from a commoner to a future princess.  At De Beers, the goal is touch a woman’s heart with fabulous designs and meticulous craftsmanship. In their latest collection, unveiled this week in Paris, every ring is comprised of three diamonds; one solitaire diamond in the centre and two diamonds aside. The cushion-cut diamond ring is bearing a striking resemblance to Meghan Markle’s engagement ring where three diamonds represent past, present, and future.

The future princess’ ring incorporates elements from her future husband Prince Harry’s mother collection. Moreover, it had an estimated price point of some £150,000 – compared with €17,000 (£14,800) for the De Beer rings on display in their Paris showroom on rue de la Paix. Meghan’s ring was made by court jewellers Cleave and Company and apparently designed by Prince Harry himself.

Ever discreet, De Beers refused to comment on the source of Markle’s key stone. Although, as it was sourced from a mine in Botswana that makes it very likely to have been one from De Beers, which has four companies in the southern African state including its Global Sightholder Sales that has transformed the landlocked country into a global rough diamond hub. Botswana is also where Meghan and Harry have gone on safari vacations together.

De Beers' centre diamond, which is available in round brilliant cut, cushion-cut, and emerald-cut, is in a four prong setting to enhance the beauty of the ring as well as to increase the brilliance of the diamond. The ring collection is available in rose gold, yellow gold, and platinum. Clients have the possibility to personalize the engagement ring, by booking an appointment.

Besides engagement rings, soon-to-be brides may also select jewelry from other collections like Talisman; where diamonds have been used in the purest natural form. And attention has been given to the diamond setting and texture, which give an elegantly antique feel to the collection.

De Beers is one of the biggest names in the diamond jewelry world. Every piece of De Beers is crafted with immense patience and attention to detail. New engagement rings are an extension of De Beers know-how, which posted annual revenues of $5.8 billion (£4.1 billion) in 2017.
