Big news for Manchester’s Arndale shopping centre with the impending arrival of Nike’s first standalone Nike Rise store in the city. Its debut also draws to a close the memory of Topshop with Nike taking the final part of the failed former Arcadia-owned fashion brand.

The US sportswear giant will open a two-floor 13,418 sq ft flagship store for the digitally-focused Nike Rise concept later this year.

The concept, which launched last November in the US, is home to several unique features including Sport Pulse, a digital storytelling platform that creates one-of-a-kind content within the store, as well as screens displaying local sports, city and athlete data.

The store will join Sports Direct, Hollister, Gilly Hicks, Tommy Jeans, Abercrombie & Fitch and Clarks at the venue, co-operated by Global Mutual and M&G Real Estate.

Steve Gray, Head of European Retail Asset Management at Global Mutual, said: “It is testament to the popularity of Manchester Arndale that Nike has selected the centre for its first Rise store in Manchester.

“The city is home to two of the world’s most famous sports teams, and Nike’s arrival will be a great attraction for sport lovers across Manchester and the North West.”

He added: “The letting to Nike also means that the entire space vacated by Topshop has now been filled, following the lettings to Clarks and Gilly Hicks last year. This justifies the Manchester Arndale team’s decision to split the space and create three new high-quality units in a prime location.”
