The founders of concept store Hostem on April 3 opened another concept location in London's Shoreditch. Called Blue Mountain School, it’s located on the corner of Chance Street and expands the original Hostem luxury concept.

It offers up a selection of fashion, food, music, collectible furniture, design and art, all in a fragrant space with the scent created by upscale perfumer Lyn Harris. And as with all high-end concept stores these days, it also has a dining area, in this case a luxury one called Mãos, which was created by Chiltern Firehouse executive chef Nuno Mendes.

The six-storey space set up by James Brown and Christie Fels is just the latest development in a Shoreditch that has transformed itself in recent years from one of London's most rundown areas to one of its most vibrant retail centres.

The building, which was formerly a belt factory, has been changed beyond all recognition by 6a Architects with key features including a curving wooden staircase, an all-white archive space with sliding shelves, a viewing room with a suspended copper stair (created by German designer Valentin Loellmann), a Low Company vinyl listening room, and an exhibition space called Blue Projects.

While some of the names exhibiting and selling their products in the new space have an existing following, most of them are still emerging and the publicity Blue Mountain School will get should prove to be a major boost to their businesses.
