Jaeger-Lecoultre choses Los Angeles to present The Golden Ratio Musical Show

The Swiss watchmaker house Jaeger-LeCoultre loves Los Angeles. One year after the opening of its new boutique on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, Jaeger-LeCoultre has chosen Los Angeles to present its show entitled 'The Golden Ratio Musical Show'.

The Golden Ratio Musical Show with Tokio Meiers will happen in Los Angeles on June 22

First launched in Shanghai during the Shanghai International Film Festival, The Golden Ratio Musical Show is a nod to the mystical number 1.618, recognized as a universal sign of beauty and harmony and which inspired the original of Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso watch in 1931.

Winner of Britain Got's Talent in 2017, artist and pianist Tokio Myers has been commissioned by Jaeger-LeCoultre to compose an exclusive soundtrack playing a 10-minute, sound-and-light original symphony entitled 'Timeless' and projected onto a giant screen of falling water.

Born in London and of West Indian descent, Myers was revealed to the world for his reinterpretation of piano playing. His distinctive style fuses classics with dance, rap, hip-hop and 90s soul music, and for several years now has been offering spectacular stage performances with lighting, visual effects and sometimes pyrotechnics.

"I wrote this new piece with the explicit intention of amplifying the emotional impact of the digital projection," said Myers. "A show as a short symphony in four chapters or movements, that takes the listener on a powerful journey."

To enhance the experience, refreshments will be available from the nomadic 1931 Café. Built outdoors at Westfield Century City on Santa Monica Boulevard, the outdoor concept also pays homage to the world's first drive-in cinema, which opened in 1933 and gave birth to a new form of entertainment that would become deeply embedded in American popular culture.

During its "Los Angeles season", the 1931 cinema will be open to the public free of charge from June 22 to 25, offering the opportunity to discover design and watchmaking in an entirely new cultural context. The space will be open all day from 10am to 10pm, with the musical show The Golden Ratio starting at 7pm, and continuing on a 20-minute cycle until 10pm.

The collaboration with Tokio Myers is part of the 'Made of Makers' program created by Swiss watchmaker Jaeger-LeCoultre.

"A program launched with artists, designers and craftsmen from disciplines other than watchmaking who share Jaeger-LeCoultre's values of creativity, expertise and precision, in order to extend the dialogue that naturally exists between watchmaking and art," said the Jaeger-LeCoultre house.

In the past, the Swiss company has called on a number of makers, including mixologist Matthias Giroud and Parisian pastry chef, Nina Métayer.

The show will move on to London in September, then Dubai at the end of the year.
