Kacey Devlin wins 2017 BT Emerging Fashion Designer Award
Kacey Devlin took home the 2017 BT Emerging Fashion Designer Award this week in Sydney, at an Australian Fashion Chamber-backed event, which celebrates up-and-coming design talent in Australia.
Held in the Royal Hall of Industries in Moore Park, Sydney, Devlin -- a 28 year-old womenswear designer from Sydney herself -- took out the competition on Thursday night, pipping fellow Australian designers We Are Kindred and Celeste Tesoriero for the top spot.
Devlin receives a total of AU$70,000 in prizes, taking home a $10,000 cash grant, as well as financial planning services and a membership to the Australian Fashion Chamber.
Known for her floaty, deconstructed tailored pieces and luxury sport aesthetic, Devlin graduated from the University of Technology Sydney in 2012 with a bachelor of design degree, before launching her label Kacey/Devlin in 2014.
“Kacey’s clothes are not just totally wearable, they are made from the most beautiful fabrics," said Edwina McCann editor-in-chief Vogue Australia and Chairman of the Australian Fashion Chamber.
"As a designer, Kacey has made a commitment to creating a label that uses sustainably sourced materials with unique and multifunctional designs."
In March, she took out the 2017 National Designer Award at the launch of the 22nd edition of the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival (VAMFF).
The prize, which includes funding of AU$100,000, saw Devlin's winter 2017 collection included in David Jones’ (Australia's leading department store chain) March 14 gala runway presentation during VAMFFl.
In addition, her next collection will be featured in the Australian Fashion Chamber’s upcoming Australian Designers Abroad showrooms in Paris next season.
Kacey Devlin is currently stocked in a dozen Australian boutiques and the Australian label specialist Aust boutique in Venice Beach, California.
