London's New West End Company launches app for retailers

Business group the New West End Company has introduced a new app, together with Mallcomm, that lets retailers in the London area stay in touch with each other and with essential resources.

The app lets users communicate with services including clean teams, welcome ambassadors, security services and shop floor employees. It also provides the latest footfall and sales data for the area, as well as up-to-the-minute information about job vacancies and internal loyalty programmes to further support the West End business community, New West End says.

The technology has previously been used in shopping centres, but this is the first time it's been employed to connect the streets of a major retail destination anywhere in the world.  

New West End Company’s Managing Director of the Trading Environment, Steven Medway, says the opportunities presented by the technology are endless: "Our bespoke app is designed to solve many of the operational challenges businesses across the West End face. The ability to communicate together as an area can only help build a stronger offering for the millions of visitors who come every year."

The app is being introduced in stages, starting with Oxford Street and coming to Regent Street and Bond Street next year.
