Missoni Creative Director Angela Missoni on Wednesday will launch Surface Conversion, a contemporary culture, modern art, and fashion design concept, at the Missoni New York City store that explores the connection between art and fashion.

Servane Mary - Untitled (Woman on a Fence)

Surface Conversion is an ongoing art program featuring alternating projects that focus on visual art, cinema, architecture, design, literature and poetry. Angela developed the concept with the intention of supporting contemporary art. The Italian fashion house’s Madison Avenue store will be the exclusive home of Surface Conversion, and it will feature artists’ work throughout. Brooklyn-based artist Servane Mary will be the first artist featured by Missoni, and her works will remain until January 29, 2017.

Born in Switzerland in 1972, Servane Mary works with appropriated images of women from the 1940s through 1970s who are misunderstood, misrepresented or are tragic figures. Mary’s works are carried on materials and supports that allow for the viewer to reevaluate the subject.

The Missoni New York City store is located at 1009 Madison Avenue.
