Australia's largest department store Myer will shutter two regional stores in New South Wales, as part of the retailer's "sharper and more focused offer" under the New Myer strategy.

Myer will shutter two regional stores under 'New Myer' retail strategy

“Our New Myer strategy is designed to deliver a sharper and more focused offer, and improve productivity across the entire business," said Myer CEO, Richard Umbers.

"These difficult but important decisions are a necessary step in the delivery of the New Myer strategy, which is designed to return Myer to profitable growth."

One of the stores to close this October is located in the town of Wollongong, south of Sydney. Orange is the other Myer store to cease trade, shuttering next January.

“While decisions to close stores are never easy, the process of reshaping our store network to better align with our primary customers is an essential part of the strategy," continued Umbers.

“We are committed to supporting all impacted team members, and we will work with them through this process,” he said.
