New retail development planned for London's Holborn

A new retail development planned for London’s Holborn has named Red Construction Group as key delivery partner. The company is based in nearby Farringdon.

The new Holborn development is focused on Greville Street and Bleeding Heart yard

Seaforth Land is planning an Edwardian-inspired refurbishment project at 20-23 Greville Street, adjacent to Holborn’s historic Bleeding Heart Yard. Work is due to start this autumn, which may not seem like the best timing given what’s happening in the UK at present. But with completion of the development expected in summer next year, the company must be hoping it will be able to ride the recovery wave.

The total refurbishment will cover the building’s 35,566 sq ft of floorspace, with the basement, ground and first floor levels fronting both Greville Street and Bleeding Heart Yard to be renovated and adapted for retail use.

The project has been designed by award-winning architect Groupwork + Amin Taha and involves a comprehensive restoration of the existing office building that will “reinstate the structure’s original Edwardian architectural details and bring new purpose to the site”.

The design will complement the surrounding Hatton Garden Conservation Area, known for its status as London’s jewellery quarter. And in keeping with the neighbourhood’s history, the building will also incorporate a dedicated 1,486 sq ft affordable workspace for the craft.
