Olivia Palermo plans her Karl Lagerfeld launch for Dubai
Fashion entrepreneur and style icon Olivia Palermo’s partnership capsule collection with Karl Lagerfeld will be launched in Dubai this summer.
The Instagram phenomenon will debut the collection in the emirate on June 12 with a presentation for clients inside the Karl Lagerfeld flagship in Dubai. Guests will be able to pre-order and receive the collection the following week.
The house of the late German designer unveiled the collection to press in Paris on Tuesday. It comprises 19 pieces of ready-to-wear that cleverly incorporate the expressionist aesthetic of the late German designer’s signature brand, and the urban style of Palermo’s native New York. Along with four bags, including a sleek weekender and a bucket bag.
“I wanted to respect the aesthetic of Karl Lagerfeld with an added sporty New York feel. Clothes that are stylish and cool,” said Palermo in a phone call from New York.
Much of the collection is her edit of classic Karl Lagerfeld pieces, though it also contains five “bespoke” pieces where her hand is clearly evident. Like a mini Perfecto in black crinkly leather, over which is written “Karl State of Mind” under one lapel; while on the back it reads “Forever Karl.” Palermo has also edited the collection to add in white T-shirts with black crystal silhouettes of herself and Karl. Notable also are sweatshirts with a blotched-out logo, with Palermo’s own signature on the back of the neckline.
Other covetable items include a tuxedo jacket with satin lapels, made with the KL logo print of micro profiles of Lagerfeld with his sunglasses and ponytail; to be worn with ladylike tuxedo shirts with plissé necklines. Trousers vary from leather pencil pants to extra-wide denim versions.
“The house of Karl Lagerfeld has been super supportive, an amazing partner. It’s been a great relationship,” said Palermo, who boasts 5.9 million Instagram followers.
The edit’s label reads Karl Lagerfeld X Olivia Palermo on one side. On the reverse, it reads: Karl Lagerfeld X styled by Olivia Palermo. Olivia’s New York take on Karl’s Parisian chic style.
The collection has everything from the gym to the gala, from spandex leggings with piping and natty one-piece leisure suits, to a cutaway lapel-free coat in KL classic black and white bouclé wool.
The global launch will take place on Thursday, June 27, rolling out in all Lagerfeld flagships, select retail accounts and on the websites of both Karl Lagerfeld and Olivia Palermo. The bespoke pieces will be exclusive to the websites. All backed up by a worldwide ad campaign starring Palermo shot by Chris Coles in Paris.
