With more than 40 years of experience in the sector, Porsche Design has now kicked its watchmaking into a higher gear. The German brand, which markets ready-to-wear, fashion accessories and high-end luggage to both men and women, now has a Swiss timepiece subsidiary.

Established by the grandson of the founder of Porsche cars, the luxury brand has entrusted the management of its new subsidiary to Patrick Fury, the onetime CEO of the watchmaker Eterna.

"We are especially happy to have acquired Patrick Kury, a watch expert who – as well as demonstrating a profound understanding of our brand – is extremely skilled and accomplished when it comes to developing watch mechanisms," said the CEO of Porsche Design Group, Juergen Gessler.

Porsche Design Timepieces - the name of the new subsidiary - will based in the region of Jurasüdfuss. It will produce luxury watch models in line with the house’s original flagship black and titanium watch models, which date back to the early 70s.

The distribution of the brand’s new watches will be reserved for selected retailers as well as the luxury brand’s store network, which has been expanding worldwide in recent seasons.

Based in Ludwigsburg, Germany, Porsche Design has over 150 stores, about thirty of which are directly operated. In 2013, Porsche Design saw its sales jump by 10% to 123 million euros.

Last year, it opened more than 50 stores, directly managed or through partners. The next is expected by September on rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré (10th arrondissement) in Paris.
