Consumers are facing widely varying prices for pre-loved items depending on where they shop for them and new research has shown that they could be paying over 400% more for the same item on a different website.

Ebay

The research from vouchercodes.co.uk has shows that eBay is the cheapest resale platform and the price of a pair of Carharrt dungarees, for instance, fluctuates by 467% across various websites. This is followed by Nike Air Jordan 1s that fluctuate by 315% and Ted Baker’s French Bulldog mini tote bag (287%).

Levi’s 501s have the smallest price difference at just 10%.

The savings site analysed 20 of the most popular branded fashion items this year, also including Birkenstocks and Jacquemus bags, across three pre-loved sites — Depop, eBay, and Vinted

As mentioned, it found eBay to be the cheapest of those analysed, with the total average price for all 20 pre-loved items on the shopping list amounting to £980.74.

Vinted was the second cheapest, with the same items coming to £1,084.36, and Depop came in as the most expensive, with the 20 items costing £1,177.96 in total, 20% higher than on eBay.

Twelve of the items were priced lowest on eBay, compared to five for Depop and only three for Vinted.

Those Carhartt dungarees mention earlier were priced at £37.45 on Vinted and just £6.60 on eBay.

Vouchercodes stressed the importance of “thorough research and shopping around” when buying pre-owned fashion.
