Samsøe & Samsøe expands retail presence in Europe after positive 2016
Danish ready-to-wear label Samsøe & Samsøe has enjoyed a positive 2016, with a 36% revenue growth over 2015, and is setting off on an ambitious, Europe-wide expansion plan.
In France, it will debut with a 50 m2 shop-in-shop in the men's section at Parisian department store Printemps Haussmann at the end of the month, soon to be followed by one of 30 m2 in the women's section.
"Samsøe & Samsøe has an upmarket customer target, and [in France] we are aiming for retailers like Le Bon Marché - we have actually said no to the Galeries Lafayette department store for three years," said Vitus Overgaard, the label's International Sales Director. Elsewhere in Europe, next week Samsøe & Samsøe will inaugurate a monobrand store in the Bikini shopping district in Berlin. In February it will open in Helsinki, Finland, and on 1st March in Trondheim, Norway. These new openings will add to the 44 mono-brand stores the label is currently operating, the majority of them in Scandinavia.
Samsøe & Samsøe is now exhibiting at Florence’s Pitti Uomo and it is also set to expand in Italy, having signed a distribution deal with Milanese company Baco Distribution, starting with the AW 2016-17 season. Andrea Conidi, Baco Distribution's owner, has underlined the Danish label's energetic performance in the last few years: "from a revenue of €20 million in 2012, Samsøe & Samsøe has nearly topped the €120 million mark in 2016, notably thanks to its products' excellent value for money."
The label's business is split at 60% womenswear and 40% menswear, and the forecast for 2017 is to grow by 30%. Scandinavia remains its main market, followed by Benelux and Germany, where Samsøe & Samsøe operates two showrooms, in Munich and Düsseldorf. Other showrooms are active in Copenhagen, Aarhus (Denmark), Stockholm, Oslo, Paris, Amsterdam and Antwerp. Besides Baco Distribution in Italy, the label's other European distributors are Zonetwo Pegaso in London, The Boost in Madrid, Kauppahuone Olkinuora & Pedersen in Helsinki and Deelux Trading in Zurich.
