Scalpers, the Spanish menswear brand, is planning to expand into a new category with the launch of its first ever women’s collection next autumn.

The decision to enter the womenswear market comes after growing interest from female shoppers at its stores, said the brand in a press release. The launch is also part of the company’s expansion plan for the year.

Maria Jesus Marin will be in charge of developing the new Scalpers Woman line. She has previously held a variety of roles at Grupo Cortefiel, including commercial director of the women’s collection for Pedro del Hierro until 2016 and head of El Corte Ingles’ junior collection. She was most recently brand director at Trucco.

Marin said that Scalpers is a “leading brand with directional men’s clothing”, and that the womenswear line will fill a gap in the market. The first Autumn Winter 2018 collection will be available in Scalpers stores, in the brand’s concessions inside department stores and online.

The brand was founded in 2007 and currently operates more than 130 stores worldwide, including 100 standalone and concessions in Spain. The brand’s presence will be expanded this year with a new store in Bilbao, which will become its largest location yet.

Scalpers has also stores in European cities in London, Amsterdam, Paris and Lisbon and continues to grow in the Mexican market, where it already has four stores.
