While brands often steer clear of commenting on political developments, a number of businesses have launched humorous ads referencing the resignation of Liz Truss as UK prime minister, and in the fashion and accessories space, Sekonda is one of them.

Its “playful” ad is intended to be seen as “demonstrating its support of the nation, following the news surround Liz Truss’s recent resignation as Prime Minister after just 45 days”.

The company said the “straight-talking” ad features the newly launched Men’s Velocity chronograph watch, which strategically showcases the time 13:34pm, the exact moment the resignation announcement was made.

The ’45 DAYS’ ad is “a reactive placement in-keeping with the brand messaging ‘No Time for Nonsense’, which has been curated to cut through the complexity and nonsense of the watch category and to highlight their great quality, stylish watches at affordable prices”.

The ad can be seen on the brand’s owned channels, as well as appearing in the London Evening Standard on Friday.

Brand Manager Rosie Curtis said: “Sekonda has always been straight-talking, and our No Time for Nonsense platform allows us to connect with consumers calling out the nonsense they experience in their everyday lives. We’re looking to let the brand’s personality shine through, showcasing our irreverence and mischievousness and speaking to people in a fun, down to earth way.”

The company said it will continue to stay close to the news agenda, and react to cultural moments that warrant being called out”.
