The IGDS (Intercontinental Group of Department Stores) awarded Selfridges “Best Department Store in the World" at the Global Department Store Summit 2014, held on May 8 and 9 in Singapore.

The jury selected the British retailer over two other favorites: Macy's in the US and Breuninger in Germany. The three companies made successive business presentations in front of representatives of IGDS, the association composed of 37 department stores from 35 different countries around the world.

"This award is international recognition of the global reach of our brand,” said Paul Kelly, CEO of the British company. "Selfridges has gone from strength to strength worldwide, and this prestigious retail award recognizes the status of our brand as a successful retail innovator."

Besides its famous London department store, Selfridges also has locations in Birmingham and Manchester. Macy’s, in turn, has over 800 department stores, mainly in the United States, while Breuninger operates ten stores in Germany.
