Umbro is “taking a stride towards reducing the environmental impact of its products and activities”. How so? The UK sportswear brand has launched Undyed, a sustainable unisex collection of sports-inspired casuals for SS23.

Using environmentally-friendly undyed fabrics, the collection still manages to maintain a “clean-lined, modernist aesthetic”.

Within the collection, trims and details are kept to a minimum “to further reduce the collection’s environmental impact”. Additionally, non-toxic, high elasticity rubber screen printing techniques are used for all prints. Meanwhile, product packaging is also crafted from 100% recycled materials, using only vegetable-based inks.

Umbro said its long-standing drill top provides design cues in the form of V-shaped rib inserts on sleeves and necklines.

Underlining its step towards sustainability, fabrics used in the Undyed collection comprise a combination of 60% cotton and 40% recycled polyester as well as 100% cotton jersey. And, by focusing on undyed fabrics throughout, the collection also reduces the volume of water required in the manufacturing process by around 50%, Umbro noted.

Each style also features a flower-shaped logo consisting of five Umbro double diamonds as signage to the Undyed collection’s lower environmental impact, while its commitment is highlighted by the collection’s statement: “Be kinder to the environment”.

The collection comprises five key apparel styles as well as a contemporary cross-body bag.

Presented in a muted undyed shade of ecru, Undyed retail prices range from £55 for the hoodie, £50 for the sweatshirt, £45 for the joggers and shorts, and £35 for the T-shirt.
