Vionnet launches sustainable fashion collection with artist Marc Quinn
Vionnet is pushing its ecological engagement a step further via a collection with British artist Marc Quinn. The sculptor, painter and mixed-media artist, known for his solid gold statue of model Kate Moss, created last year his 'Raft Series', inspired by non-degradable bags found on beaches and in the ocean.
Quinn's sculptures and paintings made from crumpled plastic bags struck a chord with Vionnet owner and creative director, Goga Ashkenazi, who has now decided to launch a collection with the artist.
The spring/summer 2018 collection -- dubbed 'Sustainable Surf' for its surfing world accents -- boasts a full wardrobe for summer, made up of dresses, pants, sweaters, knits, t-shirts and coats, as well as accessories, with prices ranging from 60 to 1,350 euros.
The women's collection is made completely from natural and sustainable fabrics, namely "cotton poplin, eco-leather, recycled plastic and a technical parachute fabric," according to a press release from the luxury brand.
The offering recently dropped at London department store Selfridges inside a pop-up store, which will remain open for seven weeks, with a special installation presenting giant reproductions of some of the artist's 'Raft Series' paintings.
Vionnet will donate 50% of profits made from sales of the collection to 'Parley For The Oceans', an organisation that fights ocean pollution.
Marc Quinn isn't a stranger to collaborations in the fashion world. In 2016, the artist was called upon, alongside other artists, to reinterpret the Lady Dior bag for the French luxury house.
